Geek Gab: First Date Etiquette
0 Comments Published by dana March 1st, 2006 in First Date Episode: 3/1/06, Geek GabThis is step 5 in our Back to Basics series. Last Geek Gab you learned how to plan a first date. Now you are on the date! Woot Woot- EXCITING! Don’t screw up now… follow these simple steps to a successful first date.
First, there is the pre-date checklist.
- Remember First Impressions, dress appropriately, shower, brush your hair, shave
- Wallet & money
- Keys
- Phone; on vibrate mode
- Condoms (just in case)
- What to leave home – your ex’s photo from our your wallet and your laptop
Ok, now you are on the date. You need to do the following:
- Relax, laugh, & have fun
- Be polite: open doors, be attentive
- Conversation Tips:
- Ask questions
- Listen to the answers
- Share info about yourself
- Talk about personal things that will help you get to know them better.
- Don’t over drink disproportionately. Your date and you should have similar levels of soberness or drunkenness for the event.
- Pay the bill (if you arranged for the date). Even is she offers to pay, you should pay.
Now it’s the end of the date, a source of stress for many first daters.
- Thank them for a nice time.
- BE HONEST. Tell them you will call them IF you plan to call them. Otherwise, say nothing.
The first date kiss.
- Totally optional.
- If you’re unsure of their interest, you can ask, “Would it be ok if I kissed you?”
That was a perfect first date scenario. What if there is no chemistry or the date goes badly….what do you do?
- A. If you’re not getting along, say goodnight and make sure she gets home ok. This isn’t your fault; not everyone gets along.
- B. If you’re not sure if you get along, it might take a 2nd date to figure it out. This is totally normal.
- C. If the date wasn’t perfect in other regards, like the food was bad or someone got really drunk, laugh about it and ask for a 2nd date!
