Dear Hal,

I’m really into this girl at work. She’s new to the office and I think we have some chemistry but she doesn’t seem too interested in dipping her pen in the company ink. Wink wink. What can I do? I’d like to get to know her and I’d like to eventually date her.  Just to complicate things, my co-worker is interested in her too. HELP!

• Determine if your working relationship with this women could be sexual harassment in any way.  Does either of you have any authority over the other?
• Get her in a group social setting like happy hour or lunch.
• Don’t use your office time to ‘get to know her’. Leave work for work.
• Work friendships often lead to romance later on down the road. Put in the friendship now.
• Office romances can be seductively exciting and secretive.  But a break could yield a break up with the whole company.
• If your company is huge it may not be an issue but keep your professional life in mind.  Perception is reality.
• Regarding your coworker- just get to know the girl in a normal way. Don’t get into a pissing territory match because chances are she won’t date either of you.  Just be a friend and see what happens.
